The 300HEADS Portrait Project was conceived in the fall of 2005 simply as a way for the artists to become better portrait painters. Enlisting close friends and family members, they set off doing quick, one hour studies. As word spread, more and more people became involved as models, widening the circle of friends. Included are Chicago musicians, writers, artists, actors, comedians, teachers, doctors, yoga instructors, friends from out of town…the list goes on and on.

Looking back now that the project is complete, it is apparent that the lessons learned not only involve the act of painting. So much has been learned by the artists about themselves and the fascinating people that are represented.

Thank you to everyone who modeled for the project and to those who generously referred others.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the portraits or commissioning a piece, please contact the artists at painting300heads@yahoo.com.

We hope you enjoy viewing the paintings as much as the artists enjoyed creating them.
